Amblypsilopus neoplatypus is a species of long-legged fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Based on observations of preserved specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the genus Amblypsilopus. The specimens show long, thin legs and wings that extend beyond the abdomen. The body coloration appears metallic, consistent with many members of the subfamily Sciapodinae.[1]
Amblypsilopus neoplatypus was described by Daniel J. Bickel in 1994. The species is recognized as an accepted name within the family Dolichopodidae.[2] Its description was published as part of a comprehensive review of the Australian Sciapodinae, which also covered Oriental and Australasian faunas.[2]
