Visual Description
Based on observations of preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Amblypsilopus malensis exhibits the characteristic slender body form typical of the subfamily Sciapodinae.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and elongated wings that extend beyond the tip of the abdomen.[1]
History and Classification
Amblypsilopus malensis was described by Daniel J. Bickel in 1994.[2] The species was formally published in his comprehensive work, "The Australian Sciapodinae (Diptera: Dolichopodidae), with a review of the Oriental and Australasian faunas, and a world conspectus of the subfamily," published in the Records of the Australian Museum Supplement.[2]
