Visual Description
Amblypsilopus dorsalis is a small, slender fly characteristic of the family Dolichopodidae, often referred to as long-legged flies. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies possess a metallic, often iridescent body coloration, which is typical for many members of the genus Amblypsilopus.[1] They exhibit long, slender legs and wings that are held in a characteristic position when at rest. The eyes are prominent and occupy a significant portion of the head.
General Information
Amblypsilopus dorsalis was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1866 as Psilopus dorsalis.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Amblypsilopus.[2]
