Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Amblypsilopus castus exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the family Dolichopodidae.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and wings that extend beyond the tip of the abdomen. The body coloration is generally metallic, a common trait among many species in this genus.[1]
History and Classification
Amblypsilopus castus was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1866 under the name Psilopus castus.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amblypsilopus.[2]
