Visual Description
Amaurosoma tibiellum is a species of fly within the family Scathophagidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic body form of the family, with a slender, elongated abdomen and distinct, well-developed wings. The body is typically covered in fine, sparse setae (hairs). The legs are relatively long and slender, consistent with the general morphology of the genus Amaurosoma.[1]
Classification and History
Amaurosoma tibiellum was originally described by the entomologist Zetterstedt in 1838 under the name Cordylura tibiella.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amaurosoma.[2]
