Based on examination of preserved specimens, Amaurosoma katmaiensis exhibits typical characteristics of the family Scathophagidae. The specimens observed display a slender, elongated body form characteristic of many dung flies. Key features include well-developed, prominent compound eyes and a set of distinct bristles (chaetotaxy) on the thorax and abdomen, which are diagnostic traits for identification within the genus Amaurosoma. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with other members of the family.[1]
