Visual Description
Amaurosoma flavipes is a small fly characterized by a dark, greyish-black body and distinctively yellowish-orange legs.[1] The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, dark setae (hairs). The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The head features prominent, dark-colored compound eyes.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Amaurosoma flavipes is known to be a pest of timothy-grass (Phleum pratense L.).[2] Research indicates that the application of foliar silicon fertilizer to timothy-grass can increase the plant's resistance to damage caused by this fly.[2] Additionally, A. flavipes serves as a host for the parasitoid wasp Seladerma laetum.[3]
