Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Amaurosoma armillatum exhibits the characteristic morphology of the family Scathophagidae.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of the genus, with a distinct, somewhat rounded head featuring prominent compound eyes. The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, sparse setae (hairs). The wings are clear and membranous, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The legs are relatively long and slender, equipped with small spines.[1]
Biology and Classification
Amaurosoma armillatum was originally described by Zetterstedt in 1846 under the name Cordylura armillata.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amaurosoma in the family Scathophagidae.[2]
