Visual Description
Members of the genus Amauromyza are small flies. Observations of specimens, such as Amauromyza abnormalis, indicate a generally dark appearance, with the head, antennae, mesonotum, scutellum, abdomen, and legs typically black.[2] The calypteres are also dark, featuring black margins and fringes.[2] These traits are consistent with observations of various Amauromyza species within the TreeOfLife-200M dataset.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Amauromyza is a genus of flies in the family Agromyzidae.[3] Some species, such as A. abnormalis, are known to infest plants, including Amaranthus species.[2] In these cases, larvae bore into the stems of the host plant, where multiple larvae may reside before exiting to pupate in the soil.[2]
