Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Alluaudomyia are small, delicate flies.[1] They are characterized by distinct, dark, spot-like markings on their wings, which are otherwise pale or translucent.[1] The body is generally light-colored, often appearing yellowish or pale brown.[1]
Biology and Research
Alluaudomyia is a genus of predaceous midges within the family Ceratopogonidae.[2] Recent taxonomic work has expanded the known diversity of the genus, including descriptions of new species from regions such as the Hainan Tropical Rainforest in China.[2] These studies often utilize morphological analysis combined with DNA barcoding (specifically COI sequences) to differentiate species and associate sexes.[2]
The genus is organized into various species groups, such as the maculipennis group and the parva group.[2]
