Visual Description
Alloxytropus elias is a small fly, with a body length ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 mm. The head is spherical, with the male possessing eyes that are contiguous along most of their length, while the female has a flat or slightly rounded frons that is much wider than the ocellar tubercle. The head and thorax are dark in ground color but are densely covered in a pale grey pruinescence (microtrichia). The wings are translucent and milky-white in appearance, with very pale venation. In males, the abdomen is mostly a vivid white color. The legs are generally dark yellow to light brown, and the halteres are mostly white.[2]
Biology and Distribution
Alloxytropus elias was described by Winterton and Kerr in 2006. The type material was collected in the Negev region of Israel, specifically from a dry wadi.[2] The species is recognized in global biodiversity databases.[3] Genetic data for this species is available through public nucleotide databases.[4]
