Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, specimens of Allotrichoma filiforme exhibit the characteristic body form of shore flies (family Ephydridae).[1] The flies possess a compact, sclerotized exoskeleton with a dark, often brownish or greyish coloration. The wings are typically clear or lightly infuscated, showing the characteristic venation patterns of the genus. The head features prominent compound eyes and specialized mouthparts adapted for their feeding habits in shore-line environments.[1]
Allotrichoma filiforme Becker, 1896, is recognized as an accepted species in some databases, such as GBIF.[2] However, taxonomic revisions have suggested that Allotrichoma filiforme may be considered a junior synonym of Allotrichoma simplex (Loew).[3]
