Visual Description
Allophylina albitarsis is a small fly characteristic of the family Heleomyzidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a generally slender, elongated body form typical of many acalyptrate flies.[1] The coloration is predominantly brownish or yellowish-brown, providing camouflage in its natural environment. A notable feature, as suggested by the specific epithet albitarsis, is the presence of pale or whitish tarsi on the legs, which contrast with the darker segments of the limbs.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Allophylina albitarsis was described by Tonnoir and Malloch in 1927.[2] Records indicate that this species interacts with the plant Leptospermum scoparium (commonly known as mānuka).[3]
