Visual Description
Based on examination of museum specimens, Allomyella frigida exhibits typical dipteran morphology. The body is characterized by a robust, somewhat elongated form, with distinct segmentation typical of the order Diptera. The specimens display a dense covering of setae (bristles) across the thorax and abdomen, a common feature in many members of the Scathophagidae family. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with many temperate or arctic-adapted species, with shades of brown and grey predominating.[1]
Classification and Distribution
Allomyella frigida (Holmgren, 1883) is an accepted species within the family Scathophagidae.[2] It was originally described under the basionym Cordylura frigida by Holmgren in 1883.[2] Genetic data for this species is cataloged in the NCBI Nucleotide database.[3]
