Morphology and Identification
Allomyella albipennis (Zetterstedt, 1838) is a small-sized fly, measuring approximately 3.1–3.2 mm in length.[2] It is currently classified within the genus Microprosopa Becker, 1894, where it is placed in the subgenus Allomyella Malloch, 1923.[2]
Diagnostic features include:
- Head: Features a black frontal vitta (yellowish only in the lower third or half), black fronto-orbital plates, and a greyish-dusted postcranium with black setae in the upper third and pale hairs in the lower part.[2]
- Thorax: Black and greyish-dusted. The proepimeron has one pale setula, and the anepimeron usually bears one or several hairs.[2]
- Legs: Coxae, trochanters, and femora are black; tibiae and tarsi are yellow.[2]
- Abdomen: Black and subshining, with tergites 3–5 shining along the lateral margins.[2]
- Male Genitalia: A reliable diagnostic feature is the structure of the male 5th sternite, which is symmetrical with bifurcate lobes.[2]
Distribution
The species is recorded in Russia (Karelia, Moscow Oblast, and Tyumen’ Oblast) and Europe (Scandinavia).[2][3]
