Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Allomyella are small to medium-sized flies typical of the family Scathophagidae.[1] They exhibit a robust body form with a distinct, often bristly, appearance characteristic of dung flies. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, and the body coloration ranges from yellowish-brown to darker, more muted tones.[1]

Allomyella is a genus of flies in the family Scathophagidae, first described by the entomologist John Russell Malloch in 1923.[2] The genus is recognized as an accepted taxon within the family.[2]
