The genus Allominettia consists of flies within the family Lauxaniidae. While specific morphological traits are often examined in preserved specimens, the genus is characterized by features typical of the family Lauxaniidae, which are generally small to medium-sized flies.[1]
Allominettia was described by Friedrich Georg Hendel in 1925.[2] Taxonomic revision and phylogenetic analysis suggest that the monophyly of the genus is supported only when the species Chaetominettia mactans (Fabricius, 1794) and Deutominettia pulchrifrons (Hendel, 1925) are included within it.[3]
Phylogenetic studies utilizing morphological data have produced consensus trees to hypothesize relationships among the species within the genus. These studies have also provided redescriptions of known species and descriptions of new ones, supported by identification keys based on morphological characters.[3]
