Description
Allomethus is a genus of flies belonging to the family Pipunculidae. The genus was described by D. Elmo Hardy in 1943.[2]
Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Allomethus exhibit the characteristic body form of the family Pipunculidae, often referred to as big-headed flies.[1] These flies are typically recognized by their disproportionately large, holoptic eyes that occupy most of the head surface. The thorax is generally robust and compact, and the abdomen is often slender or slightly club-shaped. Due to the nature of the available museum specimen imagery, finer morphological details such as wing venation patterns or specific setal arrangements cannot be definitively resolved.[1]
