Visual Description
Allograpta ventralis is a hoverfly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the genus. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a distinct abdominal pattern consisting of alternating dark and light bands, which is a common feature among many syrphids.[1] The head features large, prominent compound eyes that occupy much of the dorsal surface. The wings are generally clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Allograpta ventralis (Miller, 1921) is an accepted species within the family Syrphidae.[2] It was originally described under the name Sphaerophoria ventralis by D.W. Miller in 1921.[2]
Ecological interaction data indicates that this species has been recorded interacting with Pastinaca sativa (wild parsnip).[3]
