Visual Description
The species Allograpta nigripilosa is a flower fly within the family Syrphidae. Due to the unavailability of high-resolution images for direct morphological inspection, specific diagnostic traits cannot be detailed here. However, it is noted in literature that A. nigripilosa is morphologically extremely similar to Allograpta amphotera, with the primary distinction between the two species being the pattern of microtrichia on the wings [2].
Distribution and Status
Allograpta nigripilosa (Hull, 1944) is endemic to the Society Islands of French Polynesia [2]. Specimens have been collected from several islands within the Society Archipelago, including Tahiti, Raiatea, Moorea, and Taha’a, across various elevations [2].
Genetic Information
The taxonomic validity of A. nigripilosa as a distinct species from A. amphotera remains uncertain, although they are currently treated as separate taxa [2]. Genetic analysis using DNA barcodes (5′–COI) has placed both species into the same Barcode Index Number (BIN: BOLD:AAZ6685), though the sequences form two distinct clusters [2].
