Visual Description
Allograpta neotropica is a hoverfly (family Syrphidae) characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the genus. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a distinct abdominal pattern consisting of alternating dark and light bands, which is a common feature among many Allograpta species.[1] The head is dominated by large, prominent compound eyes. Ecology and Distribution
Allograpta neotropica is an aphidophagous hoverfly, meaning its larvae are predators of aphids.[2] Research conducted in commercial wheat fields in Paraná State, Brazil, has documented the presence of this species, although it was collected in lower numbers compared to other hoverfly species such as Allograpta exotica.[2]
The species has been recorded interacting with various plant species, including Passiflora mixta and Eucalyptus globulus.[3]
