Visual Description
Allograpta hollowayae is a species of flower fly (family Syrphidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic body form of the genus Allograpta, featuring a slender abdomen with distinct yellow and black banding patterns. The thorax is typically dark with lateral yellow markings. The wings are clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The head is dominated by large, holoptic eyes in males, and the antennae are relatively short, typical of many syrphids.[1]
Ecology
Allograpta hollowayae has been documented visiting the flowers of Melicope ternata (Rutaceae).[2]
History
The species was described by B. J. Thompson and F. C. Thompson in 2010, based on specimens from New Zealand.[3]
