Visual Description
Allograpta calopoides is a hoverfly characterized by a distinct, patterned abdomen. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a slender, elongated body typical of the genus Allograpta.[1] The abdomen exhibits a series of yellow, rounded or oval spots against a dark, blackish background. The thorax is dark, often with a metallic or bronze-like sheen, and is contrasted by yellow lateral markings. Taxonomic History
Allograpta calopoides was originally described by the entomologist C.H. Curran in 1938, under the basionym Syrphus calopoides.[2]
