Visual Description
Allograpta calopa is a hoverfly characterized by a slender, elongated abdomen typical of the genus. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the abdomen features distinct, alternating yellow and black transverse bands.[1] The thorax is generally dark, often with metallic or shiny reflections, and the wings are clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
Taxonomic History
The species was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1858 as Syrphus calopus.[2] It is currently accepted as Allograpta calopa (Loew, 1858).[2]
