Visual Description
Based on observations of preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Allograpta australensis exhibits characteristic features of the family Syrphidae.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated abdomen typically marked with distinct yellow or orange transverse bands, which is common among members of the genus Allograpta. The head is dominated by large, prominent compound eyes that occupy much of the dorsal surface. The wings are generally clear and held in a characteristic position when at rest. Due to the nature of the preserved specimens, fine details such as specific setal patterns or delicate wing venation are difficult to resolve, but the overall body plan remains consistent with the genus.[1]
General Information
Allograpta australensis is a species of hoverfly in the family Syrphidae. It was originally described by I.R. Schiner in 1868 under the basionym Melithreptus australensis.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the genus Allograpta.[3]
