Visual Description
Allognosta obscuriventris is a species of soldier fly. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a slender body form typical of many Stratiomyidae. Key visible traits include a dark, somewhat elongated abdomen and wings that are often held flat over the back when at rest. The thorax and head structures are consistent with the genus Allognosta, featuring characteristic venation patterns on the wings that can be observed in high-resolution imagery.[1]
Taxonomy and History
Allognosta obscuriventris was originally described by the entomologist Hermann Loew in 1863 as Metoponia obscuriventris.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Allognosta.[2]
