Visual Description
Allognosta fuscitarsis is a species of soldier fly. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a slender body typical of the genus. The thorax and abdomen are generally dark in coloration. The wings are clear or slightly tinted, with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the family Stratiomyidae. The legs show distinct coloration, often with darker tarsi, which is reflected in the specific epithet fuscitarsis.[1]
History and Classification
Allognosta fuscitarsis was originally described by Thomas Say in 1823 under the name Beris fuscitarsis.[2] It is currently an accepted species within the genus Allognosta.[2]
