Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Allognosta exhibit characteristic features of the family Stratiomyidae.[1] These flies typically possess a somewhat flattened, elongated body form. The wings are often held flat over the abdomen when at rest, and the venation pattern is characteristic of the family. The coloration in observed specimens ranges from dark, often black or brownish, to patterns with lighter, yellowish or reddish-brown markings on the thorax and abdomen.
Distribution and Ecology
Allognosta is a genus of soldier flies. Species within this genus have been documented in various regions, including North America, Africa, and Asia.[2] For example, Allognosta vagans (Loew, 1843) has been recorded in Somogy county, Hungary, as part of a faunistical survey of the family Stratiomyidae in the region.[3]
