This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Allodiplosis crassus is a member of the family Cecidomyiidae, commonly known as gall midges. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of this group, including delicate, slender bodies and long, thin legs. The wings are typically clear with reduced venation, a common trait among cecidomyiids. The antennae are notably long and often exhibit a beaded or moniliform appearance, which is a diagnostic feature for many species within this family.[1]
Allodiplosis crassus was described by Kieffer and Jörgensen in 1910.[2] As a gall midge, it is associated with the formation of galls on host plants. Interactions recorded for this species include being a host to various parasitic wasps (parasitoids), such as Torymoides erythromma, Torymoides testacea, and Eurytoma striatigena.[3]
