Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Allodia zaitzevi exhibits the characteristic morphology of a fungus gnat.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of the family Mycetophilidae, with long, delicate legs and prominent, clear wings that extend beyond the abdomen. The thorax is robust and arched, while the head features large, prominent compound eyes and long, filiform antennae. The coloration is generally muted, consisting of shades of brown and tan, which is consistent with the cryptic appearance often found in this group.[1]
Allodia zaitzevi is a species of fungus gnat described by Olavi Kurina in 1997.[2] The species was formally described in the publication "A new species of fungus gnats of the genus Allodia Winnertz, 1863 (Diptera, Mycetophilidae) from Estonia."[2]
