Visual Description
Allodia septentrionalis is a small fly belonging to the family Mycetophilidae. Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits typical fungus gnat morphology, characterized by a slender body and long, delicate legs.[1] The wings are clear and often held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The thorax is arched, a common feature in this family, and the overall coloration is generally brownish or yellowish, consistent with many other members of the genus Allodia.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Allodia septentrionalis was described by Walter Hackman in 1971 as part of the Allodia lugens group, specifically noted for its presence in Northern Europe.[2] As a member of the Mycetophilidae, the larvae of this species are typically associated with fungi, where they develop.[2]
