Visual Description
Allodia pistillata is a species of fungus gnat within the family Mycetophilidae. As with other members of the genus, it exhibits the characteristic morphology of fungus gnats, typically featuring slender bodies and long, delicate legs. While specific diagnostic morphological traits are often subtle in this group, specimens are generally recognized by their wing venation and specific genitalic structures, which are critical for species-level identification.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Allodia pistillata was originally described by Lundström in 1911 as Brachycampta pistillata.[2] Like other fungus gnats, the larvae of this species are typically associated with fungi, where they feed on fungal tissues or decaying organic matter.
Ecological interactions recorded for this species include predation; it has been documented as a prey item for the meadow grasshopper Conocephalus dorsalis.[3]
