Visual Description
Allodia ornaticollis is a species of fungus gnat within the family Mycetophilidae. Based on observations of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic slender body form typical of the family. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, with venation patterns consistent with the genus Allodia. The thorax and abdomen show coloration patterns that are often used in conjunction with terminalia morphology for identification.[1]
Biology and Classification
Allodia ornaticollis was originally described by Meigen in 1818 as Mycetophila ornaticollis.[2] It is currently classified as an accepted species within the genus Allodia.[2]
The genus Allodia belongs to the tribe Exechiini within the subfamily Mycetophilinae. While recent research has focused on the diversification of Allodia species in the Afrotropical region, A. ornaticollis is a well-established member of the genus.[3]
