Description
Allodia alternans (Zetterstedt, 1838) is a species of fungus gnat belonging to the family Mycetophilidae, subfamily Mycetophilinae, and tribe Exechiini [2]. It is also referred to in literature by the subgeneric name Allodia (Brachycampta) alternans [2, 3].
Visual Description
Specimens of Allodia alternans are small, delicate flies typical of the family Mycetophilidae. While specific morphological traits are difficult to resolve from the available dataset imagery, the specimens exhibit the characteristic slender body form, long legs, and prominent, arched thorax common to the genus Allodia [1].
Collection and Distribution
The species is represented in scientific collections, such as the fungus gnat collection at the Regional Natural History Museum in Plovdiv, Bulgaria [2]. Specimens in this collection were primarily gathered by entomologist Dimitar Bechev from Bulgaria and Greece between 1981 and the early 2000s [2].
