Visual Description
Allocotocera dilatala is a fungus gnat characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the family Mycetophilidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species possesses long, thin legs and prominent, clear wings that extend beyond the length of the abdomen.[1] The thorax is notably arched, and the antennae are relatively long and filiform.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Allocotocera dilatala was described by A.L. Tonnoir and F.W. Edwards in 1927 as part of their work on New Zealand fungus gnats.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Allocotocera.[2]
