Based on observations of preserved specimens, Allocotocera bispinosa exhibits the characteristic morphology of a fungus gnat.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of the family Mycetophilidae, with long, delicate legs and prominent, clear wings that extend beyond the abdomen. The thorax is robust and arched, while the head features large, prominent compound eyes.[1]
Allocotocera bispinosa (Tonnoir & Edwards, 1927) is an accepted species within the family Mycetophilidae.[2] It was originally described under the name Aneura bispinosa by A.L. Tonnoir and F.W. Edwards in their 1927 work, "New Zealand fungus gnats (Diptera, Mycetophilidae)."[2]
