Allobaccha praeusta is a hoverfly characterized by a distinct, elongated, and club-shaped abdomen, typical of the genus Allobaccha. Observations of preserved specimens reveal a dark, shiny thorax and a prominent, dark-colored abdomen that narrows significantly at the base before widening into a club-like structure posteriorly. The head features large, holoptic eyes (touching in the midline) that dominate the dorsal view. The wings are largely hyaline (clear) with visible venation patterns characteristic of the family Syrphidae.[1]
Allobaccha praeusta was originally described by Bezzi in 1915 as Baccha praeusta.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Allobaccha.[2]
