Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens, Allobaccha eclara exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the genus Allobaccha within the family Syrphidae.[1] The abdomen is notably petiolate, being constricted at the base and widening towards the posterior, a trait commonly associated with mimicry in this group. The wings are generally clear and relatively long, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The thorax and abdomen display dark coloration, with distinct, lighter-colored transverse bands or spots on the abdominal segments.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Allobaccha eclara is a flower-visiting hoverfly. Documented interactions include visits to flowers of various plant species, such as Ocimum (Lamiaceae), Bulbine frutescens (Asphodelaceae), and Delosperma litorale (Aizoaceae).[2]
