Visual Description
Allobaccha apicalis is a slender hoverfly characterized by a distinct, elongated abdomen typical of the genus Allobaccha. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species exhibits a dark, often blackish, body coloration with contrasting yellow or orange markings on the abdomen and thorax.[1] The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, particularly towards the apex.
Distribution and Taxonomy
Allobaccha apicalis (Loew, 1858) is a species of hoverfly within the family Syrphidae.[2] It was originally described as Baccha apicalis by H. Loew in 1858, with Japan serving as the type locality.[3][2] Synonyms include Baccha nigricosta Brunetti, 1907, and Baccha apicenotata Brunetti, 1915.[2]
The species has a broad distribution across Asia, including records from Burma, China, India (including states such as Assam, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal), Japan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.[2]
