Visual Description
Allobaccha amphithoe is a hoverfly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the genus. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the abdomen is notably constricted at the base, often displaying distinct banding patterns.[1] The wings are generally clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest.
Distribution and Ecology
Allobaccha amphithoe (Walker, 1849) is a hoverfly species recorded in the Western Himalaya region of India.[2] It possesses a broad distribution that includes Burma, China, India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal), Japan, and Sri Lanka.[2]
The species has been observed visiting flowers of Cyanthillium cinereum.[3]

Synonyms for this species include Baccha amphithoe Walker, 1849; Baccha pedicellata Doleschall, 1856; Baccha bicincta Meijere, 1910; Baccha flavopunctata Brunetti, 1913; and Baccha fulvicostalis Matsumura, 1916.[2]
