Visual Description
Alliopsis laminata is a fly within the family Anthomyiidae. Based on examination of specimens, the species exhibits typical muscoid fly morphology. The body is generally robust and covered in fine, dark setae (bristles). The thorax is characterized by a greyish-brown coloration with longitudinal stripes, while the abdomen is often darker, sometimes appearing with a metallic or pollinose sheen. The wings are clear with distinct venation typical of the family.[1]
History and Classification
Alliopsis laminata was originally described by the entomologist J.W. Zetterstedt in 1838 under the name Anthomyza laminata.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Alliopsis.[2]
