Visual Description
Alliopsis is a genus of flies within the family Anthomyiidae. Based on observations of museum specimens and field photographs from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of this genus typically exhibit a robust, muscoid body form characteristic of many anthomyiids.[1] They are generally dark-colored, often with greyish or brownish dusting on the thorax and abdomen. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with venation typical of the family. The legs are well-developed, often with distinct bristles (setae) that are useful for identification.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Alliopsis species are part of the diverse Anthomyiidae family. Some species, such as Alliopsis silvestris, have been documented in biotic interaction databases as being preyed upon by various bird species, including the bluethroat (Luscinia svecica), the Eurasian magpie (Pica pica), and the common raven (Corvus corax).[2]
