Description
Allanthalia is a genus of flies in the family Hybotidae. It was described by the entomologist Axel Leonard Melander in 1928.[2]
Visual Description
Based on examination of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Allanthalia flies exhibit typical characteristics of the family Hybotidae.[1] They are small, slender flies with a distinct, often humped thorax. The wings are typically clear or lightly infuscated, and the legs are often slender, sometimes with specialized structures for grasping or locomotion. Due to the nature of the preserved specimens, fine details such as specific setal patterns or delicate wing venation may be difficult to resolve without high-magnification microscopy.[1]
