Visual Description
Based on observations of museum specimens and citizen science records, members of the genus Allactoneura exhibit typical mycetophilid morphology.[1] They possess slender bodies and long, thin legs characteristic of fungus gnats. The wings are often clear or lightly patterned, and the thorax is typically arched.[1]
Research and Diversity
The genus Allactoneura is a group of fungus gnats within the family Mycetophilidae. Recent integrative taxonomic studies, such as those conducted in Singapore, have utilized both molecular and morphological data to identify and describe new species within the genus, including Allactoneura tumasik and Allactoneura limbosengi.[2] These efforts often employ "dark taxonomy" workflows, which rely on Malaise trap sampling to document the high diversity of undescribed species in the Oriental fauna.[2]
