Alipumilio athesphatus is a hoverfly species. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a robust body form typical of the family Syrphidae.[1] The specimens exhibit a distinct, dark-colored thorax and abdomen, with visible wing venation patterns characteristic of the genus.[1]
Alipumilio athesphatus is a species within the tribe Merodontini (subfamily Eristalinae) and is present in Argentina.[2] In the Neotropical region, the tribe Merodontini is represented by four genera, with four species from three of these genera currently known in Argentina, including A. athesphatus.[2] The species was described by Morales, Massardo, Moreira & Thompson in 2009.[3]
