This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Aleucosia exhibit characteristic features of the family Bombyliidae, including a robust, often densely pubescent body.[1] The wings often display distinct patterns or venation characteristics that have historically been used to differentiate species within the genus.[2]
The genus Aleucosia was established by Edwards in 1934.[3] Historically, it was treated as a subgenus of Comptosia Macquart, 1840, and was divided into four groups based on wing size, pattern, and venation.[2] Recent cladistic analysis of the subfamily Lomatiinae has confirmed the monophyly of Aleucosia within a revised arrangement of Comptosia sensu stricto.[2] Taxonomic discussions have highlighted that characters such as pubescence, leg spines, and postpedicel shape are significant for distinguishing groups within this complex.[2]
