Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aldrichiopa coracella exhibits the general body form characteristic of the family Tachinidae.[1] The specimens display a robust, bristly appearance typical of many tachinids. The thorax and abdomen are covered in distinct, dark setae. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, and the overall coloration is dark, consistent with the specific epithet coracella.[1]
Aldrichiopa coracella was originally described by J.M. Aldrich in 1934 as Aphelogaster coracella.[2] A recent taxonomic review of the genus Aldrichiopa has provided a redescription of this species.[3] This review includes detailed morphological characterizations of the egg, first-instar larva, and the terminalia of both adult males and females.[3] The study also provides insights into antennal ultrastructure and updates the known geographic distribution of the species.[3]
