Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Aldrichiopa species are small flies typical of the family Tachinidae.[1] They exhibit a robust, compact body form characteristic of many tachinids. The head features prominent, well-developed eyes and antennae with distinct morphology. The thorax and abdomen are often covered in fine, dark setae (bristles), which are diagnostic features for the family.[1]
Aldrichiopa is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae, established by Guimarães in 1971.[2] Recent taxonomic reviews have expanded the understanding of this genus, which includes species found in Argentina and Chile.[3]
The genus currently comprises two recognized species: Aldrichiopa coracella (Aldrich) and A. serrata Torres-Domínguez & Mulieri, 2024.[3] Research has provided detailed morphological descriptions of the egg, first-instar larva, and adult male and female terminalia.[3] Studies also incorporate analysis of antennal ultrastructure and provide identification keys for males.[3]
