Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Aldrichia are characterized by a distinct, non-hump-backed body form.[1] The antennae are notably long, exceeding the length of the head, and are covered in dense scales or long pile.[2] The basal antennal segment is swollen and also features long pile.[2] The wings appear smoky and lack scales, with the vein R2+3 arising from R4+5 at a right angle.[2]
Biology and Distribution
The genus Aldrichia is represented in Ontario by the species Aldrichia ehrmanii Coquillett.[2] This species is considered rarely collected, with Ontario records limited to the vicinity of London, although it is also distributed across the central and eastern United States.[2] Aldrichia ehrmanii measures approximately 8–9 mm in length.[2]
Adults have been recorded in May and June.[2] While the host requirements for Aldrichia ehrmanii remain unknown, individuals have been observed visiting flowers of Rosa and Rubus species.[3]
