Alcataenia micracantha is a species of tapeworm belonging to the family Dilepididae within the order Cyclophyllidea. Like other members of the class Cestoda, it is a parasitic flatworm. Preserved specimens of this species are maintained in the research collections of the Natural History Museum of Denmark.[1]
Visual Description
Specimens of A. micracantha appear golden-yellow or golden-brown when viewed under microscopy. The scolex is typically broad and heart-shaped or triangular, featuring a prominent, pointed apical rostellum and two large, distinct, circular lateral suckers (acetabula). The surface of the scolex often exhibits a granular texture. The body, or strobila, consists of a linear series of clearly defined, rectangular proglottids. These segments may appear translucent and fibrous, with internal structures representing reproductive organs or eggs visible within the tissue.
